THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO GETTING MARRIED AT BRAESIDE ESTATE
Tucked away in the heart of the Gold Coast, Braeside Estate is one of those rare venues that feels wonderfully removed from the city despite being surprisingly central. Hidden behind established gardens and mature trees, the estate reveals itself gradually, creating an immediate sense of privacy and calm that’s difficult to expect from such a convenient location.
One of the things we hear couples comment on most often is how quickly the outside world seems to disappear. Within moments of arriving, the sounds of the city fade into birdsong, rustling trees and the quiet rhythm of the estate itself.
For guests travelling from Brisbane, interstate or overseas, the location is incredibly practical, yet once the gates close behind you, the celebration feels as though it’s unfolding in a private countryside retreat rather than the centre of the Gold Coast. That balance of convenience and seclusion is something we’ve found surprisingly rare, and it’s one of the reasons the estate feels so special to photograph.
Braeside Estate is one of those rare places where every part of your wedding naturally flows into the next. The morning begins in purpose-built preparation spaces filled with beautiful natural light. Ceremonies unfold beneath swaying willow trees or inside the estate's elegant chapel. Cocktail hour spills across manicured lawns before guests gather inside the light-filled Pavilion for dinner beneath softly glowing chandeliers.
Nothing feels rushed.
Everything feels intentional.
If you're searching for a wedding venue that balances European-inspired charm with contemporary refinement, while giving your guests an experience they'll remember long after the final dance, Braeside Estate deserves to be at the very top of your list.
WHY COUPLES LOVE BRAESIDE ESTATE
Some wedding venues offer one standout feature.
Braeside Estate offers an entire wedding experience.
One of the things we appreciate most every time we visit is how cohesively the property has been designed. Rather than feeling like a collection of separate spaces, every part of the estate feels intentionally connected. The morning preparations, ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all unfold naturally without guests ever feeling like they're being moved from place to place.
That rhythm is something couples often underestimate.
A wedding that flows beautifully creates a completely different atmosphere to one that constantly feels like it's running to a schedule.
We've always believed the best venues quietly encourage presence.
Braeside Estate does exactly that.
Guests settle into the gardens with a champagne in hand rather than checking their watches. Conversations continue long after cocktail hour should technically be over. Couples find themselves lingering beneath the trees because there never feels like there's any need to rush.
Architecturally, the estate strikes a balance that's becoming increasingly difficult to find.
The beautifully restored Homestead sits comfortably alongside contemporary wedding facilities, creating spaces that feel elegant without becoming overly formal. The palette is soft, restrained and timeless, allowing florals, fashion and styling to take centre stage rather than competing with them.
It's also one of those rare venues that works beautifully across so many different aesthetics.
Whether you're planning a classic black tie celebration, an editorial garden party, a European-inspired long lunch or a candlelit dinner filled with silver candelabras and sculptural florals, the estate provides the perfect canvas without ever dictating your style.
As photographers, that's something we value enormously.
The best venues don't tell your story for you.
They simply create the perfect setting for it.
ACCOMMODATION AT BRAESIDE ESTATE
One of the most overlooked parts of a wedding day isn't the ceremony or the reception.
It's the morning preparations.
After photographing weddings for more than fourteen years, we've learnt that the atmosphere during those first few hours often sets the tone for everything that follows. A calm, beautifully considered morning creates a completely different experience to one spent travelling between hotels, coordinating multiple locations and watching the clock.
Braeside Estate has been thoughtfully designed to remove that feeling entirely.
The beautifully restored Homestead offers more than simply on-site accommodation. It has been meticulously renovated with weddings in mind, creating a preparation space that feels every bit as intentional as the celebration itself.
From the moment you step inside, it's clear every detail has been carefully considered.
A dedicated wardrobe space allows your gown to be beautifully displayed before you even put it on. Elegant marble finishes and timeless colonial-inspired interiors create a setting that feels refined yet welcoming.
One of our favourite features is the purpose-built beauty area. Rather than squeezing hair and makeup into a bedroom, the Homestead includes dedicated makeup stations that allow your entire bridal party to settle in comfortably while your glam team works with ease.
As photographers, details like these never go unnoticed.
Beautiful preparation spaces don't simply create beautiful photographs, they create calmer mornings. Hair and makeup artists have room to work comfortably. Your dress has space to hang exactly as it should. Your photographer isn't rearranging furniture or searching for natural light because the space has already been designed to support the rhythm of a wedding morning.
Those quieter moments often become some of our favourites to capture.
Coffee shared on the verandah.
Parents helping with the final buttons on a wedding gown.
Bridesmaids laughing between makeup appointments.
A deep breath before the day truly begins.
These aren't simply moments before the wedding.
They're the beginning of your story, and Braeside Estate has created a space that allows them to unfold beautifully.
CEREMONY OPTIONS AT BRAESIDE ESTATE
One of the things we appreciate most about Braeside Estate is that it doesn't force every couple into the same wedding.
Every celebration feels slightly different.
Some couples are drawn to the romance of exchanging vows beneath towering trees. Others fall in love with the architectural simplicity of the estate's purpose-built chapel. Both are equally beautiful—they simply tell different stories.
After photographing weddings for more than fourteen years, we've learnt that choosing your ceremony location isn't simply about what looks the most beautiful in photographs.
It's about choosing the space that feels most like you.
One question we often encourage couples to ask themselves is this:
"How do we want our ceremony to feel?"
Quiet and intimate?
Architectural and timeless?
Immersed in nature?
Once you answer that question, the right ceremony location often becomes surprisingly obvious.
THE CHAPEL
The Chapel is one of Braeside Estate's defining features.
Purpose-built for weddings, it offers a beautifully restrained setting where the focus remains exactly where it should be—on the two of you.
Its clean architectural lines, soaring ceilings and abundance of natural light create an atmosphere that feels elegant without becoming overly traditional. Rather than relying on elaborate styling, the space embraces simplicity, allowing beautiful florals, thoughtful fashion and genuine emotion to become the hero of the ceremony.
As photographers, we particularly love how consistently the Chapel performs throughout the day.
Soft natural light fills the room without creating harsh shadows, making it an incredibly flattering space to photograph regardless of the season. That means you're far less likely to encounter the bright midday sunlight that can often make outdoor ceremonies challenging.
If you've always imagined a timeless ceremony with a refined, editorial feel, the Chapel is a beautiful choice.
AN OUTDOOR CEREMONY SURROUNDED BY NATURE
For couples who feel most at home outdoors, Braeside Estate's garden ceremony spaces offer something completely different.
Framed by mature trees, rolling lawns and the peaceful surrounds of the hinterland, these locations create a ceremony that feels immersive and deeply connected to the landscape.
Rather than feeling like a styled backdrop, nature becomes part of the experience.
Gentle breezes move through the trees.
Birdsong replaces background traffic.
Guests instinctively slow down as they settle into the ceremony.
It's these small sensory moments that often become some of the most memorable parts of the day.
One of our favourite ceremony locations is The Circle.
Beautifully positioned within the gardens, it creates an intimate gathering space where guests naturally wrap around the ceremony, allowing everyone to feel connected to the moment. It photographs beautifully from every angle while still maintaining an incredible sense of openness.
WHICH CEREMONY LOCATION WOULD WE CHOOSE?
If your wedding style leans towards black tie, editorial fashion and a dramatic yet serene aesthetic, we'd probably guide you towards the Circle. However The Chapel provides an excellent wet weather contingency if rain should dampen your plans.
The wonderful thing about Braeside Estate is that neither option feels like a compromise.
Both feel intentional.
Both photograph beautifully.
Both create a completely different atmosphere while maintaining the same sense of elegance that defines the estate.
OUR FAVOURITE DETAIL
One thing we've always loved about Braeside Estate is how effortlessly the ceremony flows into the rest of the celebration.
There's no lengthy transition.
No waiting for buses.
No travelling between venues.
Guests simply drift into cocktail hour while you take a few quiet moments together as newlyweds.
It's a small detail, but one that changes the entire rhythm of the day.
COCKTAIL HOUR AT BRAESIDE ESTATE
If there's one part of a wedding we think deserves far more attention, it's cocktail hour.
It often becomes one of the most relaxed, joyful and genuinely memorable parts of the entire celebration.
The formalities are over.
You're finally married.
Your guests have a champagne in hand.
The atmosphere naturally softens as everyone settles into the afternoon together.
At Braeside Estate, cocktail hour feels less like a transition between events and more like an experience in its own right.
Guests spill out across the beautifully maintained lawns, gathering beneath the trees and around the estate while enjoying canapés and drinks surrounded by the peaceful beauty of the Gold Coast Hinterland.
Because everything remains within the one property, there's no interruption to the flow of the day.
While your guests relax, you'll have the opportunity to disappear for a short time to create portraits across the estate before joining everyone for dinner.
One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that couples will "miss" their cocktail hour.
In reality, we'd much rather see couples spend ten or fifteen intentional minutes together than rush through portraits simply to return a little earlier.
Those few quiet moments often become the first opportunity you'll have to simply breathe together.
No speeches.
No timeline.
No expectations.
Just the two of you.
AN ATMOSPHERE THAT INVITES PEOPLE TO LINGER
The best cocktail hours aren't filled with activities.
They're filled with conversation.
Braeside Estate naturally encourages this slower pace.
Guests wander between beautifully styled furniture settings, champagne stations and lawn games while enjoying uninterrupted views across the property.
Rather than feeling hurried into the reception, people instinctively settle in.
It's the kind of atmosphere where another glass of champagne appears almost accidentally.
Where grandparents sit beneath the trees talking for hours.
Where old friends reconnect.
Where children run across the lawns while musicians play softly in the background.
These aren't simply moments between the ceremony and dinner.
They're some of the moments your guests will remember most.
OUR ADVICE
Don't underestimate how much cocktail hour contributes to the overall experience of your wedding.
If your budget allows, this is one of the places we'd encourage couples to invest.
Beautiful furniture.
Live acoustic music.
Exceptional canapés.
Thoughtfully selected drinks.
Champagne served from vintage silver trays.
These details don't simply look beautiful.
They create an atmosphere that invites people to slow down, stay present and enjoy every part of the celebration.
Some of our favourite weddings have had cocktail hours that guests talked about long after the reception ended.
WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY AT BRAESIDE ESTATE
Every wedding venue has beautiful locations.
What separates the truly exceptional venues is how effortlessly those locations come together throughout the day.
Braeside Estate is one of those rare properties where every part of the landscape feels intentionally connected. Rather than travelling between portrait locations, the estate naturally unfolds around you, allowing us to create an incredibly varied gallery while spending less time away from your guests.
Over the past fourteen years we've learnt that the best photographs rarely come from chasing dramatic backdrops.
They come from beautiful light, thoughtful architecture and couples who feel relaxed enough to simply enjoy being together.
Braeside Estate offers all three.
From the beautifully restored Homestead and elegant Chapel to the mature trees, expansive lawns and thoughtfully landscaped gardens, every corner of the property has been designed with an understated elegance that photographs beautifully in every season.
One of the things we particularly appreciate is how restrained the architecture feels.
Nothing competes for attention.
Neutral tones, timeless materials and carefully considered landscaping allow your styling, fashion and florals to become the hero of every image.
It's a venue that feels just as beautiful ten years from now as it does today.
GOLDEN HOUR & BLUE HOUR
If we could offer one piece of advice to every couple getting married at Braeside Estate, it would be this:
Leave your reception for fifteen minutes.
Trust us.
As the sun begins to disappear behind the surrounding trees, the estate transforms completely. Warm golden light gives way to soft blue hour, creating two entirely different moods within the space of twenty minutes.
Some of our favourite photographs happen during this transition.
The golden warmth of sunset.
The quiet stillness of blue hour.
Then the excitement of returning to a reception glowing with candlelight.
These are often the photographs couples choose to frame.
OUR FAVOURITE LOCATIONS
Some of our favourite places to photograph around Braeside Estate include:
The beautifully restored Homestead.
The mature trees and established gardens.
The winding pathways through the estate.
The expansive lawns at sunset.
Editorial portraits throughout the Pavilion.
Candlelit reception details after dark.
One of the greatest strengths of Braeside Estate is that no two galleries ever feel the same.
The property rewards curiosity.
RECEPTION AT BRAESIDE ESTATE
After cocktail hour, guests naturally make their way into the Pavilion.
It's a reception space that perfectly reflects everything we love about Braeside Estate.
Elegant without feeling overly formal.
Beautifully restrained while still feeling incredibly welcoming.
Large windows allow the surrounding gardens to remain part of the experience long after the sun has set, while soaring ceilings create a wonderful sense of openness that can be styled in countless different ways.
Whether your vision includes cascading florals, layered candlelight, sculptural centrepieces or understated European-inspired styling, the Pavilion provides a beautiful canvas without ever overwhelming your design.
It's also a venue that embraces atmosphere.
As daylight fades and candles begin to glow, the room completely transforms.
One of our favourite moments is watching guests enter the reception for the first time.
The anticipation.
The music.
The collective pause before dinner begins.
It's one of those moments that deserves to be soaked in.
OUR TIPS FOR PLANNING YOUR BRAESIDE ESTATE WEDDING
If you're considering Braeside Estate, here are a few ways we'd make the most of everything the property offers.
Stay on-site the night before so your wedding morning begins slowly and without stress.
Allow plenty of time for cocktail hour so guests can fully enjoy the gardens while you step away for portraits.
Lean into the estate's timeless architecture rather than over-styling every space.
End the evening with an interactive dessert experience like a tiramisu tower or affogato before opening the dance floor.
Trust the venue's beautiful flow and avoid trying to fit too many events into your timeline.

Nothing feels excessive.
Everything simply works together.
It's perfect for couples who appreciate timeless architecture, exceptional hospitality and celebrations that prioritise atmosphere over spectacle.
Most importantly, it's a venue that encourages you to slow down.
And after fourteen years of photographing weddings, we've come to believe that's one of the greatest gifts a venue can offer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT BRAESIDE ESTATE
WHERE IS BRAESIDE ESTATE?
Braeside Estate is located in Merrimac on the central Gold Coast, Queensland. One of its greatest strengths is its accessibility. Despite being only minutes from the M1 and within easy reach of accommodation, beaches and Gold Coast Airport, the estate feels wonderfully secluded. Surrounded by established gardens and mature trees, it creates the feeling of a private countryside retreat without requiring guests to travel deep into the hinterland.
DOES BRAESIDE ESTATE HAVE ON-SITE ACCOMMODATION?
Yes.
The beautifully restored Homestead provides elegant on-site accommodation along with one of the most thoughtfully designed bridal preparation spaces we've seen.
Purpose-built with weddings in mind, it features dedicated beauty stations, beautifully appointed bathrooms, generous dressing areas and elegant interiors that allow the morning to unfold calmly and naturally.
If you're deciding whether to stay on-site, our advice is simple.
Do it.
Some of our favourite memories are made before the ceremony has even begun.
HOW MANY GUESTS CAN BRAESIDE ESTATE ACCOMMODATE?
Braeside Estate offers a variety of wedding packages suited to both intimate celebrations and larger gatherings.
Because capacities may change depending on your chosen reception layout and wedding style, we'd always recommend speaking directly with the venue to determine the best option for your guest list.
DOES BRAESIDE ESTATE HAVE A WET WEATHER OPTION?
Absolutely.
The purpose-built Chapel provides a seamless all-weather ceremony location without compromising the atmosphere of your wedding day.
One of the reasons we love this option is that it never feels like a backup plan.
It feels intentional.
That's surprisingly rare.
WHAT STYLE OF WEDDING SUITS BRAESIDE ESTATE?
Braeside Estate is incredibly versatile, but we think it shines brightest for couples drawn to timeless, editorial celebrations.
Think:
Black tie weddings.
European-inspired styling.
Garden parties.
Candlelit receptions.
Long-table dining.
Sculptural florals.
Refined celebrations where atmosphere takes precedence over excess.
Because the estate itself is beautifully restrained, it allows your own style to become the focus.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO GET MARRIED AT BRAESIDE ESTATE?
Every season offers something different.
Spring and autumn provide beautiful temperatures for outdoor ceremonies and cocktail hour, while summer creates lush gardens and long evenings perfect for celebrations that continue beneath the stars.
Winter is often overlooked, but it's one of our favourite times to photograph weddings. The softer light, comfortable temperatures and earlier sunsets create beautiful conditions for portraits while allowing receptions to transition quickly into a warm, candlelit atmosphere.
HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD WE ALLOW FOR PHOTOGRAPHS?
This is one of the questions we're asked most often, and our answer occasionally surprises couples.
We still recommend allowing around an hour for your portraits, but not all at once.
Rather than disappearing for a full hour immediately after the ceremony, we've found the most enjoyable approach is to divide portrait time into several smaller chapters throughout the day. This allows you to create a beautifully diverse gallery while still spending meaningful time with your guests.
We typically begin with a short portrait session immediately after the ceremony while guests make their way to cocktail hour. This gives you a chance to soak in the excitement of being newly married before joining everyone for canapés and champagne.
As the afternoon light softens, we'll step away together again for around 20-30 minutes during golden hour. These are often the portraits couples fall in love with—the light is softer, the pace has slowed and you've had time to settle into the rhythm of the day.
Finally, once your reception is underway, we'll steal you away for one last ten-fifteen minute session after dark. These photographs have a completely different atmosphere. Think dramatic direct flash, glowing reception lights and cinematic evening portraits that feel effortlessly editorial.
By approaching your timeline this way, you still enjoy a full portrait experience without feeling as though you've missed an entire hour of your wedding. Instead, you're able to celebrate with your guests, experience cocktail hour, enjoy your reception and create a gallery that captures every beautiful chapter of the day.
It's an approach we've refined over more than fourteen years of photographing weddings, and one that consistently gives our couples the best of both worlds.
